The Isle of Arran distillery is very young. It was founded in 1993 by Harold Currie, who retired as managing director from Chivas Brothers. Building concluded in 1995 and the adjacent visitor center was opened in 1997. It is located in the wonderful scenery of Lochranza on the island. With only 1 wash and 1 spirit still, the output could be 750.000 litres per year, but only a modest 150.000 litres are actually produced. Their official 10 Year Old was launched in 2006. They have also experimented with finishes such as the Marsala Finish (2004), Grand Cru Champagne Cask Finish (2005) and the Port Cask Finish (2010), to name but a few. In 2004, Arran won two bronze medals at the Malt Maniacs Awards. They also produce a Robert Burns single malt and blend, as well as the Lochranza blend and Arran Gold Cream Liqueur.
